Lead Electrical Designer/Engineer

Wave Engineering is growing our team with an electrical designer with industrial experience. As an experienced designer of control systems and power distribution, the successful candidate will be an integral part of our team and will assist in the growth of the company. This position will be based in Grande Prairie.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Depending on the candidate's experience and aspirations, the role may include the following in the context of an Industrial market sector:

  • Control system design (PLC, DCS, RTU etc.)

  • Power distribution design

  • Short circuit, arc flash, and fault analysis

  • Motor control and protection system design

  • Electric heat trace design

  • Electrical specifications

  • Vendor evaluation and coordination

  • Equipment layout designs, lighting layouts and design, cable schedules, and cable tray layouts

  • Provide technical support and mentoring to junior engineers and technologists

  • Attend client meetings and serve as lead electrical designer on projects

  • Assist in the development of company technical standards and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registration with ASET as a CET or APEGA as a Professional Engineer.

  • 4-8 years applicable electrical engineering experience.

  • Experience as lead designer or project manager on projects in the $50,000-$5,000,000 construction cost range is an asset.

  • Detailed knowledge of the Canadian Electrical code and additional industry standards.

  • Drive to continue to improve existing knowledge base and skill-sets.

  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and flexible to work well under tight schedules.

  • Significant field experience and knowledge is an asset.

  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license, and available to attend out of office meetings.

  • Required to live or relocate to the Grande Prairie region.

The role will support daily project operations, contributing to the consistent and profitable growth at Wave. The successful candidate will be a key element of our company’s team and must be able to work in fast-paced environments with the ability to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

This position will be based in Edmonton, AB.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Depending on the candidate's experience and aspirations, the role may include the following in the context of a power sector:

  • Power distribution design

  • Short circuit, arc flash, and fault analysis

  • Motor control and protection system design

  • Electrical specifications

  • Managing electrical engineering scope

  • Manage the project(s) schedules to meet internal and external deadlines

  • Manage project budget from $50,000 - $5,000,000 in electrical and instrumentation construction scope

  • Vendor evaluation and coordination

  • Equipment layout designs, lighting layouts and design, cable schedules, and cable tray layouts

  • Provide technical support and mentoring to junior engineers and technologists

  • Attend client meetings and site inspections

  • Assist in the development of company technical standards and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA or equivalent.

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years experience in the project management and the electrical industry.

  • Experience with ETAP software.
